What sweet treats evoke the sunny summer days of childhood more than popsicles?
Once my oldest daughter was big enough for popsicles I looked high and low on the internet for the perfect popsicle mold for toddlers. We avoid using a lot of plastic, so it wasn’t as easy a search as you might expect.
My first choice of material was stainless steel, and I did check out this option but it is SO expensive and the popsicles are way too big for a toddler.
I was excited to find this little silicone mold on amazon made by Zoku [There is another one on amazon that looks the same but I can’t speak to the quality compared to the Zoku one I bought]. Some of the reviews mentioned that the popsicles are small but honestly I find they are the perfect size for little hands! They are small enough that she can eat it before it melts and makes a mess, they aren’t top heavy at the beginning and there are no long pieces that fall off at the first sign of melting and need to be eaten from a cup.
These fish molds are a super cute option if you’re looking for something a little bigger (and they’re also made from silicone by Zoku).
With this mold I can whip up a small batch of popsicles and they freeze quickly. We can give our girls multiple (healthy) popsicles every day and I find it’s a nice little size for having one as well. We have lots of cousins as visitors and I’ve never had an older kid turn their nose up at a “little” popsicle.
The silicone mold costs more than a plastic mold, but I like that it’s not plastic, and it costs a lot less than buying popsicles all summer and this way I get to control what’s in them! It got a ton of use last summer and it still looks perfect.

Anyway, on to the healthy recipe. We make all kinds of different types of popsicles and I’ll probably share another flavour or two at some point.
Laurier is a big fan of berry flavours like blueberry, but I’m more of a tropically girl. So in this recipe I just blended up some frozen mango (from Costco), a ripe banana and some coconut milk. Super tropical, quite sweet (from the natural sweetness of all three ingredients) but so healthy that I’m just giving my girls servings of fruit!
That’s my kind of treat!

A small blender is perfect for this because you only need a very small batch and it’s easy to wash. I soak the frozen mango in a little warm water to thaw it quickly but you could also defrost it in the microwave or on the counter (or use fresh mango). I used a whole small banana that was quite ripe (sweeter) and added enough coconut milk to blend it into a liquid.
If it seems too thick you can always add more coconut milk, but remember, no one has to drink it – you just pour or spoon it into the popsicle mold. You can freeze leftover coconut milk in an ice cube tray so you add a splash of coconut flavour to popsicles or smoothies anytime instead of opening a new can.
Such a cute little mold. It doesn’t take up much space in our very packed freezer either and because the popsicles are small they freeze quickly. Fill it up, pop the sticks in and freeze for a few hours.
